Still Burning – Dan Kirk’s Graduation Recital
Perth based trombonist Dan Kirk is excited to present the culmination of 5 years of work into a recital featuring a larger-than-life horn section and the grooviest rhythm section in the business. Prepare to have the roof lifted on this not to be missed night.
Jacob Haggett – Graduation Recital
More time passes, more WAAPA students perform their final recitals. Please come and support as many as you can as everyone has been hard at work figuring out how to express themselves and our shared experiences in this wonderful niche of time over the past few years. I will be performing some songs I really dig and a selection of original compositions that will make you think or feel something, whatever that may be! I’m not here to tell anyone what to do with their time, money or thoughts – but I can tell you that it would mean a lot to see some friendly faces, and some open ears! (not that you can close them).
Jacob Haggett – Trumpet
Josh Parker – Tenor Saxophone
Luke Geha – Piano
Sam Markham – Bass
Joe Bell – Drums
I will be joined by my wonderfully talented band consisting of some ghosts of cohorts past and some fellow 2024 graduates; speaking of which I hope anyone reading this is/was able to catch Josh and Sam for their recitals. A big thankyou to the whole band for all your hard work and support, I appreciate it immensely. Another big thankyou to all those supporting music in Perth, we are all extremely lucky to have the wonderful scene we do!
Dakota Cheung – ohayashi
As a composer and guitarist, Dakota crafts delicate soundscapes that invokes the soul’s inner landscapes. Through the harmonious dance of guitar and composition, Dakota invites the listener to wander through a world where music becomes a soft, unspoken dialogue between the spirit and heart.

Matthew Gaschk’s Graduation Recital
Matthew Gaschk’s Graduation Recital is the terminus of a long road of musical soul-searching, one with many unexpected detours and plenty of potholes. You are welcomed to listen to the conclusion of this particular chapter of discovery, as he’s joined on stage by friends and collaborators in a performance that hopes to showcase the knowledge and experience gained from the last 5 years of Jazz education and experimentation. Featuring the support of Rob Montgomery on bass, Jack Eccleston on drums and Bob Tweedie on keys, as well as appearances from Jacob Haggett and Johan Kriel on trumpet and saxophone respectively, you’ll be witness to some unique arrangements of beloved tunes alongside original compositions inspired by a broad range of influences and styles. From shrieking distortion to subdued and sensitive melodies, you are invited to witness a voice moulded by eclectic taste and years of musical study celebrate the end of an era, and hopefully, the beginning of a new one.
