Perth’s most innovative jazz fusion trio returns to The Ellington for their first public performance since 2023, celebrating the release of their highly anticipated EP “One Way Up.”
ZARAPITO—featuring internationally acclaimed composer Michael Pignéguy (drums), Joe Powell (bass), and Brodie Stewart (keyboards)—has spent two years refining their unique approach to electronic-acoustic fusion, culminating in this sophisticated collection of original compositions.
The evening showcases the complete “One Way Up” EP, including the kaleidoscopic title track with its intricate 6/4 grooves and rapidly shifting harmonic colors. Following viral success on YouTube and strategic streaming releases, ZARAPITO presents their most ambitious work yet—a sonic exploration “where electronic and acoustic sounds collide.”
Led by Pignéguy, whose 27-year compositional career includes collaborations with Michel LeGrand and Ben Folds, the trio pushes contemporary jazz boundaries through cutting-edge experimentation and sophisticated interplay. This intimate performance marks their triumphant return to Perth’s premier jazz venue.
“ZARAPITO stretches musical interaction boundaries through experimental compositional forms, presenting performances on the edge where electronic and acoustic sounds collide.”
