Artist bio
Monet was born in Auckland and spent her early years relocating across various global cities before returning to New Zealand in 2014. Immersed in jazz, she is a recognised figure in Christchurch’s jazz scene, known for her skills as a saxophonist and vocalist, regularly performing with her jazz ensemble.
Currently pursuing a BA in Jazz Performance with a focus on saxophone, Monet has made significant strides in her career. She has won several awards, including Best Jazz Vocalist and Most Outstanding Woodwind Musician. At the age of 12, she gained international recognition by winning a songwriting competition, leading to a performance in Vienna, Austria.
Monet’s accomplishments extend to creating three successful Christchurch bands: Chicks From Corea (a five-piece jazz band), Roster (an eight-piece funk band), and Blue Ruby (a duo). She also organized a sold-out show titled “Jazz Through The Ages,” which explored the evolution of jazz from the 1920s to the present. This show was performed at Christchurch Riverside Market, where it was a sold-out event with a seating capacity of 80 people. She also took the show to Adelaide, performing at The Jade with a capacity of 50, where she sold 30 tickets. Most recently, Monet performed in front of 100,000 people at last year’s Christmas in the Park show in Christchurch.
