PERTH INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL AT THE ELLINGTON JAZZ CLUB
25TH OCTOBER – 2ND NOVEMBER

Garry Lee is a leading Perth jazz musician (vibraphone, guitar) and educator whose career spans more than five decades. A founding member of the WAAPA jazz faculty in 1984, Garry later served as administrator of the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Coordinator of WA. He was recognised with an Australian Jazz Award in 1993 for his vibraphone playing and a Churchill Fellowship in 1998.

This special performance pays tribute to the late saxophonist Roger Garrood, with whom Garry collaborated extensively. Together they released I Mean You (1992), and their long musical partnership is now honoured in Garry’s recording, A Waltz for Roger. The album captures the warmth, lyricism and swing that defined Roger’s playing, and this concert offers audiences a heartfelt celebration of his legacy.

The Garry Lee Quintet blends seasoned artistry with youthful energy:

Garry Lee – (vibraphone/guitar), Mike Collinson (saxes/flute), Ookii Effendi (piano) and rising WAAPA talents; Finn McKibbon (double bass) and Callum Thomson (drums).
