More than twenty years ago, a few friends branched out from their community ensemble, the Kalamunda Youth Swing Band, creating a group that quickly became beloved in the Perth swing dancing scene and led to performances at numerous festivals throughout Australia.
Their repertoire spans a wide range of musical styles, from the toe-tapping Dixieland jazz of the Roaring Twenties to the hip-swinging rhythm & blues of the mid-20th century. The band’s secret sauce is music passion, a sprinkle of laughter and a whole lot of audience love.
Tonight’s showstopper lineup features the ukulele-strumming, high-heel-wearing Jessie Gordon on lead vocals; the charming, sax-crooning Mark Turner; Daniel Greening on the slide trombone and providing entertaining antics; Leah Van der Meulan, who’s as stylish as her double bass is tall; Jon Matthews, the guitar maestro with impromptu dance moves; and Dom D’Leno, who’s turning ‘pots and pans’ into a synonym for ‘party’ and guaranteeing good times are had by all.
With a high likelihood of special guests appearing with them on stage, The Darling Buds of May invite you to be part of this nostalgic journey. So, ‘grab your coat and get your hat, leave your worries at the door,’ and take a trip down memory lane with The Darling Buds of May.
