Trumpeter and composer Oli Blyth brings the world of The Lord of the Rings to The Ellington Jazz Club in an exciting new jazz fusion project inspired by the iconic film scores of Howard Shore and of Bear McReary.

Featuring a stellar lineup of young Perth musicians, Walking into Mordor transforms familiar themes from the legendary trilogy into adventurous new works that blend cinematic storytelling with contemporary jazz improvisation. Drawing inspiration from jazz fusion, modern jazz, and film music, the performance explores the landscapes, characters, and emotional depth of Tolkien’s world through powerful grooves, soaring melodies, and spontaneous improvisation.

With featured vocals throughout the evening, audiences can expect an immersive musical journey that moves between atmospheric textures, energetic fusion, and moments of lyrical beauty. Oli Blyth is a Perth-based trumpeter, composer, and current student at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). As both a performer and composer, Oli is passionate about bringing together contemporary jazz and cinematic storytelling, creating original works that blur the boundaries between film music and improvisation. Drawing influence from jazz fusion, modern trumpet traditions, and orchestral composers, he is developing a distinctive voice that combines narrative-driven composition with adventurous ensemble performance.
