Legendary bass virtuoso Pete Jeavons returns to The Ellington with an all-star band to pay homage to Cannonball!
Born on September 15 1928, alto saxophonist Julian ‘Cannonball’ Adderley is one of the giants of Jazz. His music, infused with a natural lyricism, grooves hard and oozes soul.
The Pete Jeavons Sextet, featuring Marc Osborne on alto saxophone, will pay tribute to Cannonball and his music at The Ellington Jazz club on Saturday September 13, just a few days prior to what would have been Cannonball’s 97th birthday, had his life and career not been cut tragically short at the age of 46.
It is incredible to realise that Cannonball’s legacy was all created in a touring and recording career that lasted only 20 years. This tribute will feature music composed and/or made famous by Cannonball across the many different periods of his career, performed by a group of Perth’s finest jazz musicians.
