Originally from Perth, Karen Lane moved to London in 1999 to pursue her singing career. There she established herself with performances at Ronnie Scotts, 606 Club and Pizza Express Live, and released her first Album “Once in a Lifetime” (2002) to critical acclaim. Described as “Sensually funky and soulful” Karen brings refreshing revamps to well known standards such as “Lullaby of Birdland” and “Love Me or Leave Me.” Her undulating and evocative vocals blend traditional resonances with modern inflections.
Her second album “Taste” was released in 2004 and marked the start of her obsession with Brazilian music. The album was described in JAZZWISE magazine as: “So laid back that to listen to it, you risk slipping a disc – delightful. A genuinely heartfelt homage to the profound allure of bossanova.”
Following this Karen continued to explore the repertoire of Jazz and Latin standards as well as songwriting. Her 5th Album “Passarim” was released in 2018, which featured a range songs, some byl Brazilian composers, Djavan, Bonfa and Jobim, amongst others. A highlight track being her version of Chick Corea’s “Crystal Silence”. Karen was delighted to be the opening act for Eumir Deodato – Brazilian pianist, composer, arranger and famed record producer, for his week at Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club, Soho in 2018.
Karen has found herself singing in places she’d never imagined visiting: including Sicily, Portafino, Nice, Monte Carlo, Evian, Berlin, Cape Town and Bucharest. She feels blessed to have combined her love of music and travel, a journey she hopes to continue in 2026.
Don’t miss Karen’s homecoming performance with a trio of some of Perth’s most celebrated musicians.
