Venetia Edwards’ WAAPA journey has finally come to an end. Come join us at The Ellington Jazz club for a joyous evening of reflection as Venetia presents her growth as a musician and performer through her university experience. She is eager to showcase her love and appreciation of the journey through repertoire consisting of her favourite tunes along with a handful of her own compositions that she is excited to showcase to the world. Reminiscing on the opportunities WAAPA has given her as Venetia now moves forward into her professional career with her own songs to sing.
Venetia Edwards is a versatile vocalist and performer, currently studying Jazz Performance (4th Year Honours) at WAAPA. She is passionate about the emotional aspects of music and performance, with a strong desire to create and share music that inspires and evokes an emotional response. With an impressive upper extension and coloratura capabilities, Venetia weaves thoughtful song interpretations as she hypnotizes audiences with her voice’s honeyed tone. Her voice has been described as sweet and angelic, resonating with a natural brightness coupled with crystalline clarity and vocal grace.
Born in Dubai, UAE, to South African parents, Venetia embraces a wide range of musical styles, sounds, and languages. She sings in her mother tongue, Afrikaans, and other languages including Portuguese, Spanish, Icelandic and Japanese.
Venetia has showcased her talent at various venues, including The Ellington Jazz Club where she was able to Sell Out her first performance as a Bandleader. As well as Hyde Park, for the Perth International Jazz Festival, and the Wesley Uniting Church. Guided by mentors such as Patricia Alessi, Victoria Newton and Holli Scott she has honed her skills and developed a strong technical foundation.
