Step into the ambiance of a bygone era where jazz reigns supreme and the spotlight shines on the unsung heroines of the genre. “Hidden Heroines” is a concert experience that pays homage to the remarkable yet often overlooked “other” female jazz singers who played alongside or paved the way for icons like Ella Fitzgerald, Blossom Dearie, Nancy Wilson, and Sarah Vaughan.

An evening of shing the light on talents perhaps not as well-known but who deserve their rightful place in the halls of jazz fame. You may or may not know some of them.

From the haunting melodies of Anita O’Day to the ethereal enchantment of Abbey Lincoln, each performer adds her own unique flavour. Lurking in the shadows are the likes of songs from Dakota Stanton with My Funny Valentine, Lurlean Hunter’s ‘April In Paris’, Etta Jones’ with I Love Paris

Maxine Sullivan’s ‘Blue Skies’, Chris Connor’s ‘Lullaby of Birdland’, Valaida Snow’s ‘Caravan’, Bea Wain’s ‘You Got To My Head’ are just some whose names may have had less spotlight but whose music still echoes with undiminished power.

In this enchanting musical journey, audiences will be transported through time as they discover the rich tapestry of voices that contributed to the jazz landscape. Known for her engaging live performances and rich tone, Catherine never fails to deliver.

“Armed with an extraordinary voice and a seasoned ensemble, Catherine Summers gives well-known songs an original twist in a smooth and stylish Fringe World performance.” Xpress Magazine

“Wow what a phenomenal performer. Singer Catherine Summers is THE REAL DEAL!” TheGuide.com

“We talk about Catherine Summers off-air, and both feel the same way about her talent! Apart from accurate pitch and beautifully controlled vibrato, she has the style and maturity to carry off the Great American Songbook compositions – just like her US idols.” – Ann Bolton & Ken Turnbull, Jazz Life Main FM 94.9 Victoria
