Opening Night of the Perth Women’s International Jazz Festival features two exceptional pianists: emerging, genre-bending artist Lila Clement in a solo opening set, followed by the acclaimed Hanna Kim Trio in a feature performance.

Hanna Kim is a jazz pianist and composer originally from South Korea. After graduating from Seoul Institute of the Arts and actively performing in Korea, she moved to Perth in 2014 and formed the Hanna Kim Trio. Since then, she has performed regularly at local venues, including appearances at the Inaugural Perth Women’s International Jazz Festival last year, and Perth International Jazz Festival in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. Following the release of her single Nowhere in 2024, she has been working steadily on new music and released her debut album earlier this year. Drawing inspiration from both Korean and Australian influences, Hanna continues to create her own unique sound while collaborating with local musicians in Perth.

Lila Clement is a young and upcoming multi-instrumentalist and songwriter specializing in jazz and alternative rock. Music has played an integral role in her life ever since beginning piano lessons at the age of 6, with her tastes and aesthetics constantly in flux across 16 years of development and evolution. This passion would propel her studies through Como Secondary College under the tutelage of Kiara Wild and Helen Turner and eventually the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), completing her bachelor of music undergraduate degree in 2025 and granting performance opportunities with internationally-acclaimed jazz musicians Frank Gambale and Melissa Aldana. In parallel to this diet of jazz began a continually growing infatuation with underground rock music leading her to learn guitar and begin performing in the alternative rock band Announcer, combining post-punk aggression with a harmonic basis rooted in jazz fusion. Her most recent developments include the release of her debut single “Telegram” under her project named CLEMO and the coinciding live performance at the William Street Bird as well as her participation in the Western Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO), specifically the Dynamic Jazz Orchestra led by Marty Pervan.
