“There are no stars in this band: The band is the star” Art Blakey (Modern Drummer Magazine 1984)
Join local drummer Daniel Harrison and his band in celebrating the incredible back catalogue of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, the powerhouse ensemble that helped define hard bop and shaped generations of jazz musicians.
Spanning multiple decades (1954-1990), The Jazz Messengers produced a string of classic and critically acclaimed records, each one led by Blakey’s thunderous drumming style. During this show you’ll hear a selection of compositions taken from albums including Moanin’ (1959), Caravan (1963), Ugetsu (1963) and Free For All (1964).
