Best of British: Reimagined transforms legendary British songs into an evening of contemporary jazz, soul, swing and Latin-inspired arrangements, celebrating the songwriting of artists from the 1960s through to today. From David Bowie, Elton John, The Beatles and George Michael to Adele, Amy Winehouse, Jamiroquai, Duffy, Dua Lipa, Oasis and the Spice Girls, these much-loved songs are reimagined through Catherine Summers’ signature style, filled with rich jazz harmonies, unexpected grooves and plenty of musical surprises.
A UK-born performer, now proudly Australian, Catherine Summers shares stories of growing up in Britain, the artists who shaped generations and the songs that became the soundtrack to everyday life. Woven throughout the performance are fascinating musical history, personal reflections and Catherine’s warm, engaging storytelling. Expect everything from a jazz-funk Sledgehammer and soulful Back to Black to a roaring twenties Rolling in the Deep. Every arrangement uncovers something new within these beloved classics while remaining instantly recognisable.
Backed by an outstanding band featuring Vaughan Jameson (guitar), Jackson VanBallegooyen (keys), Shane Pooley (bass) and Dan Harrison (drums), the music is brought to life with exceptional musicianship, energy and spontaneity.
