Mateo Lorenzo y Su Yambeque bring a nine-piece live orchestra to The Ellington Jazz Club, performing the greatest romantic salsa hits of the 1980s and 1990s. Expect a passionate evening filled with timeless melodies, powerful vocals and the unmistakable sound of classic Latin orchestration.
Mateo Lorenzo is a Perth-based Latin percussionist, composer, producer, DJ and bandleader with more than two decades of experience. He is the founder and musical director of Mateo Lorenzo y Su Yambeque, one of Western Australia’s longest-running Latin ensembles. Since forming in Perth in 2013, Yambeque has performed throughout Australia and internationally, celebrating the sounds of Colombian salsa, New York salsa, Latin jazz and Afro-Caribbean music.
Mateo’s original productions include Homenaje a Barranquilla, Soy La Rumba, Cantantes del Mundo, Gózate El Carnaval and Asia en Salsa, featuring musicians and vocalists from Australia, Colombia, Cuba, Venezuela, Uruguay, Spain, the United States and Asia.
The nine-piece live orchestra features lead vocals, piano, bass, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, congas, timbales and additional Latin percussion.
