Can you imagine Perth’s jazz scene without The Ellington Jazz Club and Perth International Jazz Festival?
We invite you to celebrate the life and legacy of Graham Wood on what would have been his 55th birthday. Graham co-founded The Ellington Jazz Club with Bernard Kong before going on to found Perth International Jazz Festival. He was Associate Professor at WAAPA, an extraordinary pianist and composer, and a tireless champion of Western Australian jazz. His boundless energy, vision and passion left an enduring mark on the musical community he helped shape.
Acclaimed vocalist Ali Bodycoat – Graham’s friend and long-time musical collaborator – returns to the Ellington stage with her trio of W.A. jazz luminaries. They will perform compositions from Graham’s five recorded works alongside arrangements Ali and Graham performed during their legendary residency, sharing memories of an incredible musician, mentor and friend.
Whether you knew Graham personally, or simply love the club and festival he left us, all are welcome to celebrate a remarkable artist whose vision continues to shape Perth’s jazz scene today.
