Fremantle-born Adam James returns to Australia for a special night at The Ellington Jazz Club, reuniting with old friends and collaborators for an evening of jazz, soul, funk, and original music. A graduate of the jazz program at Edith Cowan University, Adam has spent the past decade based in the Netherlands, touring throughout Europe as a singer, pianist, and internationally performing piano entertainer. Before relocating overseas, he was a well-known part of the Perth music scene, performing with bands including BUMP, Incognito Heavies, Flava Dee, and many of his own jazz and pop projects.
In Europe, Adam continued developing his distinctive musical style through projects such as The New Versions and Adam James & The Soul Bop Sound Machine — blending modern jazz interpretations of popular music with original compositions inspired by soul, funk, and bebop. Alongside his performing career, Adam also hosts The Piano Men Podcast, a video podcast featuring piano entertainers from around the world, sharing stories from the road, life as travelling musicians, and the wild realities of live performance.
This special performance will feature modern jazz arrangements of well-known songs, original jazz and funk material, and appearances from some legendary Perth musicians from years past. The evening also features the incredible vocals of Jade Lori, along with a special reunion performance by BUMP featuring Hans Fiance on vocals, founder and drummer Hussan Hodgkinson, and other iconic Perth players.
