“Straight Ahead” has much pleasure in presenting an afternoon of the best in big band jazz from the swing era of Duke Ellington, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller and Count Basie to Bob Mintzer and The Big Phat band.
The band repertoire will include iconic jazz instrumentals and swinging vocal hits such as Satin Doll, Take The A Train, Do Nothin’ Till You Here From Me, Lil Darlin, Splanky, One O’Clock Jump, All Of Me and Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)!
A special feature for the afternoon will be “The music of Samara Joy and Gregory Porter” leading American jazz singers with new arrangements performed by our wonderful vocalists Matilda Simock and special guest Owen Measday.
So we are looking forward to opening the new year at The Ellington, don’t miss this afternoon of swinging big band music!
Straight Ahead -The Big Band is an 18 piece big band directed by saxophonist Paul Millard featuring a great line up of Perth jazz musicians playing classic jazz arrangements from the early Swing Era through to contemporary swing, latin and blues.
