Internationally acclaimed, Australian-born vocalist Andy James (LA/Vegas) makes her Perth debut this tour, bringing her band of genre-defining musicians to The Ellington Jazz Club for a night of swing, soul, and flamenco fire!
Raised on Ray Charles, Sarah Vaughan, and Ella Fitzgerald, Andy’s soulful voice and swing-forward songwriting have made her one of the most compelling vocalists working in jazz today. Her sound blends romantic vocal jazz with Latin, flamenco, soul, and swing influences, and for these Australian dates she’s joined by some of the most in-demand players in the world.
Jon Cowherd (Nashville) – keys
The Kentucky-raised, New Orleans-schooled pianist is best known for co-founding the Grammy-nominated Brian Blade & the Fellowship Band. A longtime collaborator and co-writer with Andy, Cowherd brings a rare gift for evoking emotion through harmony, honed across decades of work with Joni Mitchell, Norah Jones, and Brandi Carlile.
Vinnie Colaiuta (LA) – drums
Colaiuta is a fifteen-time Modern Drummer “Drummer of the Year” and one of the most versatile percussionists alive. His résumé runs from Frank Zappa to Sting to Herbie Hancock, and his rhythmic precision, which famously won him the drum chair with Sting, anchors the band with power and nuance in equal measure.
James Genus (NY) – bass
The celebrated American jazz bassist is known for his command of both electric and upright bass. He currently holds the bass chair in the Saturday Night Live Band and occasionally fills in for Mark Kelley in The Roots. Across his career, Genus has worked as a session musician and sideman with an extensive list of artists.
Canito (Seville) – flamenco guitar
Canito is a flamenco guitarist and composer from Extremadura, Spain whose work with flamenco’s biggest names has earned him international acclaim, including the distinction of being the first Spanish artist to win France’s Les Victoires du Jazz.
Piero Pata (LA/Vegas) – palmas & jaleos
Touring internationally alongside renowned flamenco players and dancers Antonio Canales and Rafael Amargo, experience that shapes the flamenco influence woven through this tour.
