Contemporary jazz with depth, energy, and serious chemistry.
Led by bassist/composer Nick Abbey, this quintet unites five of Perth’s most respected improvisers, long-time collaborators whose shared history fuels a fiery, ever-engaging musical rapport.
A distinctive compositional voice in his own right, Abbey is a four-time WAM Jazz Song of the Year winner, National Jazz Awards finalist, Freedman Jazz Fellowship nominee, APRA Professional Development Award finalist, and PhD recipient. Alongside his own projects, Abbey is widely recognised as one of WA jazz’s most in-demand accompanists.
Featuring Ricki Malet (trumpet), Jeremy Thomson (guitar), Chris Foster (piano), and Daniel Susnjar (drums), this band performs music from Abbey’s acclaimed Phantoms project alongside new compositions inspired by Brad Mehldau, Pat Metheny, Aaron Parks, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and Wolfgang Muthspiel — plus a few exciting left turns.
Expect evocative melodies, dynamic group interaction, and fearless improvisation.
