New band Guitari is the band around town celebrating all things guitar.
Three guitars intertwine and wander through a set that moves from melodic jazzy country and country-leaning jazz to spacious, ambient soundscapes. There will be plenty of moments to get lost in. Influences drift between Bill Frisell, Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois and Willie Nelson.
The guitarists:
Harley Coleman is a leading voice in the Sydney music scene and is only in Perth briefly – this will be his only show in the west.
Benjamin Witt has toured nationally and supported Methyl Ethel, The Drones and Ariel Pink. As a session player he’s worked with Empire of the Sun, Pond and Meg Mac, and also leads his own projects Gun Fu and Romeo Walker.
Josiah Padmanabhan is a Perth legend – seen around town playing with Grievous Bodily Calm and Bad Whip.
The non guitarists:
Alistair Peel (bass) has recently returned from a year of performing in Europe with a who’s who of jazz artists like Becca Stevens,Miguel Zenon, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Gilad Hekselman, Kris Davis, Mark Turner, Jeff Ballard and Aydin Esen.
Ben Vanderwal is a drummer who has played with the likes of Charlie Haden, John Scofield, Madeleine Peyroux and Lionel Rose.
This is a one-off meeting of guitar minds, a rare crossover of East and West.
