R&B soultress Janelle Ashley is back in Perth (Boorloo) for one night only! Having recently moved over east to arguably Australia’s cultural hub of R&B/Soul/Jazz: Melbourne (Naarm), she returns to The Ellington Jazz stage with fresh inspiration and an eagerness to share her newly lit passion for all things under the R&B and soul improv umbrella.

Janelle is quickly establishing herself as a familiar face in the Melbourne music scene. Frequently appearing as a guest feature vocalist for the likes of artists such as Jake Amy (keyboardist for ARIA award winning artist Kaiit) alongside future-soul powerhouse Emma Volard (supporting artist for international sensation Thundercat). More notably, her guest performance with THE ROOKIES (2024 AIR award nominated group) during the 2023 Melbourne International Jazz Festival which piqued the attention and praise from critically acclaimed artist Katie Noonan.

Janelle Ashley’s vocals can be described as a captivating blend of both jazz and contemporary influences. Drawing inspiration from R&B/Soul legends such as Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Hiatus Kaiyote and more – her musicality is anything but limited and dull. From hyping up big crowds with her powerful belts, to singing sweet lullaby-like ballads to touch hearts – Janelle’s talent and dedication shines through all of her exceptional performances. Originally hailing from Perth, Western Australia – she is a skilled songwriter and a graduate of the esteemed Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), possessing experience and training beyond her years.
