25TH OCTOBER – 2ND NOVEMBER
The Ellington Jazz Club proudly presents GOLDSMITH BAYNES (NZ) – a unique collaboration between soulful Māori vocalist Allana Goldsmith and renowned British jazz pianist Mark Baynes. “Soulful, sensual and beautiful songs reflecting ancestral folk wisdom and grooving jazz sensibilities” – Laila Biali (CBC Canada)
Their critically acclaimed debut album ‘E Rere Rā’, has received international air play on BBC Radio, Jazz FM (UK), CBC (Canada), and Radio New Zealand, and features original songs that carry the essence of Māori culture, reflecting the ancestral folk wisdom and storytelling traditions that have been passed down through generations.
“Allana Goldsmith’s vocal performance is superb; her storytelling, her phrasing, her tone and use of vocal range a joy to listen to. Mark Baynes makes for the perfect musical partner” – Simply Jazz Talk

“Allana Goldsmith is a rare gem, the kind of artist one hears for the first time and is immediately captivated. In many ways she is reminiscent of the great singers of the past. What is not redolent of past singers, however, is her preparedness to tackle adventurous modern projects” – CJC (NZ)
