Paying tribute to an iconic artist of the 20th century, Bob Tweedie and his quartet are back at the Ellington to play the music of jazz-pianist Dave Brubeck.
Rising to fame in 1959 with Time Out, Brubeck was an ambassador of jazz for many different audiences, and a strong force in jazz innovation.
Bob Tweedie is a recent WAAPA graduate and eager beaver, playing around Perth with the Western Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra, Claire Fahie, the 950 Express, as well as frequent Ellington appearances. While he draws influences from modern artists, it all began with Brubeck, and he looks forward to paying tribute to such an important figure. Joining him to channel the sound of the classic quartet are:
Alto Sax – Holly Forster
Bass – Adam Springhetti
Drums – Ryan Daunt
Back by popular demand, the quartet will be joined by the stunning vocals of Miella Mondlane, who will pay homage to the iconic collaborations between Brubeck and Carmen McRae.
Expect to hear a blend of classic arrangements and fresh modernisms, such as Take Five, Blue Rondo a la Turk and In Your Own Sweet Way, but most importantly an evening of delightful jazz.
The last time this band got together, the show sold out, so please book ahead to avoid disappointment!
