Ms Chris McNulty with special guest Adrian Galante
Saturday 18 December 7.00pm
Internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist, Chris McNulty once again joins forces with the sublime clarinetist and pianist, Adrian Galante. These will be the last few opportunities to catch them live in Perth in 2022 as they’ll be taking off to the USA and Europe this coming August to tour and record together. Whether it be their spectacular balladeering or jubilant, hard swinging, high flying improvisations you’ll be enthralled and captivated all night long by these two stunning artists. Their passionate love for the great American Songbook is what unites them. Each brings a special uniqueness to the table with a song selection that traverses the likes of Ellington and Strayhorn, Michel Legrand, McCoy Tyner and Freddie Hubbard including enduring favorites by artists such as Sarah Vaughan, Ella, Streisand and Tony Bennett. Accompanied by the killer trio of Brodie Stewart, Nick Abbey and Mike Perkins. Mark your calendars folks. This event is not to be missed.
“An absolute showstopper was a duet of guitar and vocal for the Burt Bacharach composition “Make It Easy on Yourself” where, at a slow tempo, McNulty wove a soulful descant on the melody over soft guitar chords to frame the song with a quiet poignant delicacy. It was a showcase of world- class talent and professionalism.” –– John McBeath, the Advertiser, Adelaide, Australia, September 6th, 2008
“…the singer’s story telling gift has you hanging on every phrase. She also contributes a brace of originals, featuring jazz singing of the highest order. McNulty has never sounded more at ease with her mastery.” –– Peter Quinn, Jazz Wise UK, 2013
“Exquisite….McNulty applies poignant jazz chops to the vocal, while accomplishing the impossible, the expression of her story through song….making listeners rethink the meaning of why we love jazz.” –– 5 Stars, Blaine Fallis, All About Jazz, July 2015
“If McNulty’s vocalising is fearless, then her writing is peerless….her explorations seem to transcend to a free zone between jazz and modern symphonic….There is so much to commend about the album: above all, the versatile, soothing, swimming voice of Australian-born McNulty; her writing and arranging skills. The musical diversity on display is equally impressive…” –– Jazz Times – Harvey Siders, January 2007
“I have had the pleasure of both playing alongside and listening to Adrian Galante. This young man is one of those musicians you can’t ignore; he commands the attention of both audience and fellow performers alike with his prodigious technique and flair for presentation. Mostly one must choose between hearing a serious musician or experiencing someone who can connect with the audience, Adrian is that rare person who understands the ‘performing’ part of performing arts without any compromise in musicianship or passion for the music.” –– Trumpeter, James Morrison 2014
“As he walks onto the stage there’s a buzz, an air of expectation. It takes less than a half a chorus of a tune before it’s abundantly clear why. Adrian Galante isn’t just a hugely gifted, young musician with impeccable technique, monster ears and great pitch. He has something else. That rare, indescribable thing we call magic. With a deep connection to the great American songbook and jazz cannon, artistry like this comes from deep within the soul.” –– Chris McNulty, October 2021
