Kerry B Ryan: A Blues Experience
Thursday 13 January 7.00pm
From the Texas Blues shuffle to the Chicago Blues scene, an electric urban creation which came out of the Delta blues music.
The blues form, ubiquitous in jazz, rhythm and blues and rock and roll, is characterised by the call-and-response pattern, the blues scale and specific chord progressions, of which the twelve-bar blues is the most common. Blue notes (or “worried notes”), usually thirds, fifths or sevenths flattened in pitch are also an essential part of the sound. Blues shuffles or walking bass reinforce the trance-like rhythm and form a repetitive effect known as the groove.
Kerry and band will be playing their versions of songs from Stevie Ray Vaughan, BB King, Johnny Watson, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Albert King, Paul Butterfield Band and others, as well as new songs from his up coming new album.
