James Flynn - Sinatra and the Shearing Sound

Friday 07 January 7.00pm

Popular vocalist James Flynn returns to Perth to kick off the New Year doing what he does best, singing and swinging the tunes of Sinatra. James has put together a quintet based on the famous George Shearing Quintet. Pianist Shearing popularised a very specific sound incorporating the piano trio plus vibraphone and guitar. Frank Sinatra toured Australia in 1958 with the same instrumentation with vibraphonist Red Norvo leading the quintet.

Tonight James’ backing quintet will include his trio plus WA’s leading jazz guitarist Ray Walker and WA’s leading jazz vibraphonist Garry Lee.

Expect another great night out with this wonderful entertainer and the cream of Perth’s musicians.

Russell Holmes – Piano, Adam Springhetti – Bass, Ben Vanderwal – Drums
