Matt Allen and Kirsty Keogh CD launch

Kirsty Keogh and Matt Allen are the inaugural students of the Bachelor of Music (Contemporary) course, being the first students to ever go through. Tonight culminates four years of study at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). Over the last two years, Kirsty and Matt have been preparing for the biggest challenge in their musical careers as they undertook the task of writing, arranging, recording, producing and then mixing an album’s worth of original material. All whilst attending daily classes and then rehearsing the band for tonight’s launch of all the recorded material. Kirsty Keogh’s album “The Story” is an 8 track record of acoustic influenced folky soul, while Matt Allen’s album “Over” spans 8 tracks of sophisticated pop with a smooth, soulful sound. With a wonderful contrast in styles, it’s a night not to miss as these two artists launch themselves into the original music industry after years of hard work.
Matt Allen is a versatile, talented and soulful performer who has been honing his music skills since the age of 10. Musical influences ranging from Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and D’angelo have helped shape Matt into the singer and songwriter he is today. Matt’s music can be described as new, edgy pop with the emphasis on the vocal delivery and sophisticated arrangements.
Kirsty Keogh is a talented and dynamic musician with a distinct style and flavour, who performs regularly in solo, duo and ensemble acts. She is a dedicated performer who is known for her rhythmic feel and soulful yet ‘folky’ vocal tone. Kirsty’s flair for guitar combined with her vocal talent, creates a unique musical experience that captivates all.
