OZ BIG BAND PLAY THE COMPLETE ATOMIC BASIE
Oz Big Band are delighted to be making their debut at The Ellington Jazz Club with a complete performance of the groundbreaking 1957 album, The Atomic Basie (E=MC2). Introducing the highly talented Yoko Clinch on piano, the band will be performing the album in its entirety.
The Atomic Basie heralded a new direction for the Basie Orchestra - many consider it the turning point from the band's Kansas City origins, toward the "New Testament" sound that was to define the band for the next two decades. Not only was the album one of Basie's most popular, it marked the dominance of Neil Hefti as one of the leading arrangers of his time.
In addition to The Atomic Basie, Oz Band will showcase the talents of vocalists Greg Marston and Alicia Broad, alongside a selection of lesser-known Basie arrangements from all aspects of his career.
Under the musical direction of Adrian Hicks, the 18-piece Oz Big Band has established itself as one of Perth's leading big bands. The group has established a strong sound recapturing the greats of the era, and has gained a strong reputation amongst both the jazz and lindy hop scenes in Perth.
Be sure to mark this date and book a table for a special afternoon of Big Band music!
