Courtney Murphy and the Diamond System
Friday, 13th August @8:00PM

Courtney Murphy is undoubtedly one of the brightest lights to emerge from Perth in recent years, with a voice and versatility as a performer that impresses fans across all styles of music. As one of the final three on ‘Australian Idol’ in 2004, still the highest rating season of the popular Network Ten program, Courtney Murphy quickly became one of the most recognisable new artists in Australia. Audiences have since seen him on stage and screen performing in musicals such as "Grease: the Arena Spectacular", "Cruisin' ", television appearances on "Spicks & Specks", "Rove: LIve", countless solo gigs as well as shows with his longtime band Murphy's Lore.
Although Courtney has a busy year with the impending launch of his debut solo album "Big", he has embraced the opportunity to present to audiences another side of his talent, and what better venue than the Ellington Jazz Club to do so in. Featuring songs from jazz and blues artists such as Frank Sinatra, Robben Ford, Buddy Johnson, the Neville Brothers as well as stylish and unexpected interpretations of hits from Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears, Gnarls Barkley, Three Dog Night and many more surprises.

"As with most people I first heard of Courtney through Australian Idol, and was immediately impressed by his talent. In fact, I even voted for him (my one and only time as well!) and since then have always said I'd like to work with Courtney. Our paths have crossed a few times, through seeing each other at different functions and gigs through to projects like the With A Little Hope From My Friends charity CD, so I finally got around to approaching him about this jazz and blues outfit that I wanted to put together with him in mind. The band comprises some of my favourite Perth players and closest friends, so straight away from the first tune we played together at rehearsal it felt like it was meant to be." - Simon Jeans (guitarist)
Tonight's performance with the Diamond System will feature Courtney and Graham Wood on an array of classic keyboards (Hammond, Wurlitzer, Rhodes) Carl Mackey (saxes), Simon Jeans (guitar), Karl Florisson (double bass) & Ben Vanderwal (drums).
