MISINTERPROTATO The Gentle War album launch
Sunday, 29th August @5:30PM

Stunning contemporary music trio  Misinterprotato return to WA for the launch of their eagerly anticipated 4th album “The Gentle War”. Recorded in the serene surrounds of Tallebudgera and then mixed in Minneapolis by Brent Sigmeth the resulting album is a bold step forward for the group, cementing their place as an ensemble with a truly individual approach to music making. Simultaneously thunderous and hushed, and remarkably compelling.

The Brisbane trio, comprising Sean Foran (piano), John Parker (drums) and Pat Marchisella (acoustic bass), are no strangers to Perth audiences and look forward to performing at Ellington’s following an extensive year of artistic endeavours. In 2010 the group really began to take off beginning with a tour of the UK. They’ve completed collaborative projects with classical group Topology and dance company Expressions and have just returned from performances in China and a tour of South America.

Their latest release “The Gentle War” features their distinctive mix of dense rhythmic interactions and gentle melodic statements. The shape-shifting grooves of “Tailgater” and “Cute” are relentless while the meditative “Blues for the Space” and “Path to rest” bring out some truly beautiful melodic statements.  The resulting album is finely focused, intimate, and always daring.

“an absorbing performance from a band with an intriguingly original approach to music-making”. - The Vortex London Live Review

"part of the new wave of piano trios, citing influences such as EST, The Necks and Radiohead. Emphasizing an ensemble approach, they are more than comfortable cranking up the volume, generating mesmeric and fluid runs, working in tight with each other". - Live Review, Wangaratta Jazz Festival - The Age
