Tura New Music Presents Liquid Architecture
Monday, 6th July @8:00PM

Please note this is experimental new music and not a jazz performance.

Tura New Music proudly announces the WA celebration of
Liquid Architecture 10: Festival of Sound Arts

Liquid Architecture 10: Festival of Sound Arts is a landmark occasion for the festival and for sound culture in Australia. Celebrating its tenth consecutive year, the Liquid Architecture sound festival runs for four weeks and goes to seven cities across Australia, presenting an exciting program of contemporary sound arts.

The Perth event features Swiss sound and visual artist Jason Kahn, German trio Perlonex  “somewhere in the no man’s land between electro-acoustic, industrial noise, ambient, minimal” and Brisbane electro acoustic artist Joel Stern “using field recordings, contact microphones, a sonic raygun, a baby moniter, trumpet, found objects….and processes too obscure to mention.”

The breadth of diversity of artists and artistic practices includes meticulous recorded work, improvised instrumental performance, new sound for screen work, radical uses of digital technology, inventive self-made sound making devices and historically informed practices.

JASON KAHN (SWITZ)

Jason Kahn is a sound and visual artist based in Zürich. His work includes drawing, sound installation, performance and composition. He was born in New York, grew up in Los Angeles and relocated to Europe in 1990.  As a composer, Kahn’s work draws on electronic and acoustic sources to create slowly developing compositions imbued with a sense of timelessness, underlining the entity of sound as both physical and psychological. Kahn has been exhibiting his sound and visual works since the late 1990’s, and has had solo and group exhibitions internationally, including museums, galleries and arts spaces in the USA, Canada, Europe, Africa and South America.

PERLONEX (GER)
Ignaz Schick - turntables, live-electronics
Jörg Maria Zeger - electric guitars
Burkhard Beins - percussion, objects
PERLONEX was founded in late 1998 and has since then extensively performed and toured numerous countries. Over the years PERLONEX have created a unique mix of different styles – settling somewhere in the no man’s land between electro-acoustic, industrial noise, ambient, minimal and often even incorporate elements of psychedelic music. On their extensive tours they have performed in an extreme range of different settings; from academic new music festivals via improv and electronica venues to rough underground and punk/noise clubs and many prominent festivals all over Europe, the USA and Russia.

JOEL STERN (QLD)
Since 1998 Joel Stern has made electroacoustic compositions and free improvisations using field recordings, contact microphones, a sonic raygun, a baby moniter, trumpet, silent brass, found objects, a gong, processing, feedback, rocks, keys, strobe lights, pedals, taisho-goto, slide guitar, mbira's and kalimba's, trumpet, gecko, string and instruments and processes too obscure to mention..

As well as working under his own name, Joel plays in bands including Abject Leader, no guru, impromptulons, sunshine has blown, gyanism....
