North Street Music presents MAD Monday

The Make a Difference Foundation WA (MAD) invites you to come down to a sophisticated evening of Jazz at the Ellington, featuring the world-class talents of the Jamie Oehlers' Quartet with Victoria Newton and remarkable jazz pianist, Tal Cohen. Enjoy a drink and tapas as you sit back and relax to the smooth sounds of these brilliant musicians. Proceeds of the event go to various MAD projects supporting local communities and individuals to Make A Difference in Western Australia. Tal Cohen
Pianist Tal Cohen began studying piano at the age of 10 playing Jewish folk songs and classical music at local venues. Leaving Israel at the age of 16 he received a music scholarship to Churchlands senior high school in WA. He then moved on to WAAPA to study the art of jazz completing a masters degree in 2009.  His music is influenced by modern Classical music, traditional Jewish folk Music, and jazz.

Jamie Oehlers' Quartet featuring Victoria Newton
Recognised as one of Australia’s leading jazz musicians and respected across the world for his saxophone playing, Jamie Oehlers' credentials are numerous.  In 2003 he was the winner of the White Foundation World Saxophone Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland judged by Charles Lloyd, Bruce Lundvall (Blue Note Records) and Jean Toussaint amongst others.  He has won numerous awards in Australia, including Australian Jazz Awards (Best Australian Jazz Artist and Best Contemporary Jazz Album); a James Morrison Scholarship; a Western Australian Music Industry Award for International Achievement; has received nominations for a Mo Award for Best Jazz Instrumentalist and Australian Young Achiever of the Year Award; and has twice been a finalist in the Australian Recording Industry Awards for Best Jazz Album.

Jamie now resides in Perth, WA as Coordinator of Jazz Studies at WAAPA whilst maintaining an international career as a solo artist.
