Heather Stewart
Sunday, 11th April @5:30PM

Vocalist and violinist Heather Stewart is a farm girl from Southern NSW. She grew up riding horses, droving cows and sheep, singing and playing the violin and piano. She pursued music and moved to Melbourne, successfully undertaking classical and Jazz degrees in violin and voice and spending a year in the UK performing and studying with international musicians. After years of sessional work in orchestras, Jazz bands and various different bands, Heather found her home in the rich and earthy sounds of the Blues.
Inspired by local musicians Andy and Peter Baylor and internationals Alvin Youngblood Heart and Corey Harris, Heather sought like-minded musicians Danny McKenna and Dan Dinnen and started this impressive new Old Blues fiddle trio. The Trio produced their acclaimed EP in November 2008 and will release the debut album through Black Market Music in 2010.
Heather's sound mixes Oldtimey fiddle Blues with country, Cajun and swamp grooves topped with soaring vocals reminiscent of Bessie Smith and Memphis Minnie.
Recent performances include Juke Joint Festival SA, Broadbeach Blues, Thornbury Theatre, Wesley Anne, MBAS Blues Cruise, The Bluestrain Sippers, The Drunken Poet, Bridge Hotel Richmond, The Lomond, The Gem, Edinburgh Castle, Café 303, Young and Jacksons. Heather also featured with Jimi Hocking’s Blue Mandolin Band at the 2008 Port Fairy Folk Festival and with huge success as a double act at the Broadbeach Blues Festival in 08 and 09.
