Backlash featuring Benn Hodgkin and Dan Hart

Taking their name from the music of late great trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, The Backlash Jazz Quintet performs music from the 1960s Blue Note era as well as world music, 1970s funk and an increasing number of originals by various group members.
 
Since forming in 2003, Backlash Jazz Quintet has performed at venues and events throughout the state, from Residencies in the Perth CBD to a JazzWA funk showcase in Albany with Spur and Thrust and performances at Bunbury Jazz Festival, Subiaco Music Festival, York Jazz Festival and the Quarry Amphitheatre. This performance at The Ellington is a rare public performance for the group in recent years.
 
Consisting of a selection of Perth's most respected jazz musicians, collectively the members of Backlash have performed with names including Harry Connick Jnr, Jerry Lewis, Marcia Hines, Shirley Basie, Wicked Beat Sound System and Paul Grabowsky.
 
With repertoire for the evening coming from such musicians as Cannonball Adderley, Herbie Hancock, Cubanismo and Lee Morgan, expect an evening of high energy swing, latin, and funk.
