Backlash Jazz Quintet
Thursday, 8th April @11:30 PM

The 1960s can be viewed as a golden age for jazz recording, with the release of many classic albums (particularly under the Blue-Note label). During this decade, some of the greats including Cannonball Adderley, Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard and Herbie Hancock all recorded ground breaking
albums with quintets.

Initially formed in 2002 as a vehicle to explore this era of jazz, Backlash Jazz Quintet has evolved to include additional high-energy styles such as funk and world music whilst keeping the core of Hard-bop central to the band's identity.

Long overdue, Backlash Jazz Quintet's first album "Through the Rubble" represents Backlash's transformation from a group covering classic jazz compositions into a predominantly original outfit.

"Through the Rubble" was recorded in April 2010 and includes contributions by all five members. These explorative compositions will be featured on the night along with a selection of jazz classics from the 1960s and other Backlash favourites from the past eight years.

Featuring Benn Hodgkin (trumpet/flugelhorn), Daniel Hart (saxophones), Glyn MacDonald (piano/keyboard), Phil Waldron (bass) & Peter Evans (drums).

On the following drop down menu choose either table or bar. Table is seated, bar is standing. On busy nights small parties (1-3 people) share at the table. We have a range of tables that seat between 2-6 people.

You need to book one ticket per person, not the number of tables, so change the box which defaults to “1” to the number of people you are paying for. We will organise the tables according the number of people you book for.

If you have a group coming together but paying separately, nominate a group leader, and in the “comments” section of the online booking form, as the leader books, he/she tells us how many places to save, then the others paying independently put, for example, “Jane’s table” in the comments section of the online order form. This way we can be sure to seat your party all together. If you are coming singly or as a group and want to join another group, also tell us in the “comments” section.
