Carl Mackey and Trent White The Music of John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman

For a special one-night performance, Perth jazz icon, Carl Mackey together with young and upcoming jazz vocalist Trent White pay respect to the timeless album and works of John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman. With Graham Wood and his trio providing the perfect backdrop, this performance will feature the music of the two jazz greats, most notably from the treasured ‘John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman’ album.

The album, John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman (Impulse!, 1963) is a must-know and own for several reasons: It provides the best glance at Coltrane's sensitive side. It captures Johnny Hartman - a singer who never got the recognition he deserved - at his best. And finally, it offers some of the best ever renditions of songs such as "Lush Life," and "My One and Only Love."

Tonight will feature the finest of Perth jazz musicians, and not only a time to celebrate this beautifully ballad-driven album, but also respective works from both Hartman and Coltrane, including ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘The More I See You’, ‘Invitation’, ‘I Just Dropped by to Say Hello’, and many other jazz classics.
