Penny has been performing professionally since 1996, when she graduated from the prestigious West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). Penny has been a featured vocalist with the West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra, and has made numerous appearances at the Perth Jazz Society, both with her own quartet, as well as being a featured performer at the annual ‘Ladies of Jazz’ concerts.
Penny has appeared at the Rottnest Festival, the York Jazz Festival, and the Fremantle International Jazz Festival. Her quartet has been featured in many local concerts, including, among others, His Majesty’s Lunchtime concert series, the City of Joondalup’s ‘Sunday Serenades’, and ‘Jazz on the Rocks’, at the Quarry Amphitheatre.
She has sung along side such luminaries as James Morrison and Dale Barlow, and, as part of the Mike Pigneguy sextet, supported Dame Kiri Te Kanawa when she performed with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
Penny had an original track featured on the Jazzaziz II CD, released in 2005 by JazzWA. She also featured on the West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra’s 1996 CD release ‘Night and Day’. She combines her love of performing with music education both as a private tutor and through vocal workshops in schools around Perth.
Penny feels blessed to create music with the finest jazz players Perth has to offer and tonight, Penny will perform with her regular band, featuring Russell Holmes on Piano, Pete Jeavons on bass and Ben Falle on drums.
