Juliana Areias – Born to Samba - The Carnival Zest

February is the month of Carnival, the greatest party on earth. And it was precisely in a Carnival summer night that Brazilian Singer Juliana Areias was born.

To celebrate and create her own carnival in Perth, Juliana brings to the Ellington Jazz Club a taste of this unique atmosphere. The concert will embrace sensuous Brazilian rhythms featuring some of the finest Sambas of all times, uniting traditional and contemporary composers such as: Antonio Carlos Jobim, Jorge Benjor, Noel Rosa, Cartola, Joao Bosco, Gonzaquinha, Djavan, Caetano Veloso, Edu Lobo, Chico Buarque, Luiz Melodia, Lenine,  Zeca Pagodinho, Arlindo Cruz, Eduardo Godin, Rosa Passos,  Rita Lee and Maria Gadu.

Supported by a smoking and sensational “Samba Big Band”, Juliana Areias is honoured  to share the stage with: 

- Marcio Mendes  (guitar , cavaquinho, percussion, backing vocal, musical direction/arrangement)

- Adam Springuetti (double bass, guitar, backing vocals, musical direction/arrangement)

- Jeremy Greig (Tombone)

- Chris Tarr (drums)

- Special guest Glenn Rogers (guitar) and Mark Shanaham (guitar) .

Juliana Areias’ career includes a performance at the revered Montreux Jazz Festival. Her authentic Brazilian voice, sense of groove, engaging charisma and a very personal and passionate stage presence are trademarks of her work.

On the following drop down menu choose either table or bar. Table is seated, bar is standing. On busy nights small parties (1-3 people) share at the table. We have a range of tables that seat between 2-6 people.

You need to book one ticket per person, not the number of tables, so change the box which defaults to “1” to the number of people you are paying for. We will organise the tables according the number of people you book for.

If you have a group coming together but paying separately, nominate a group leader, and in the “comments” section of the online booking form, as the leader books, he/she tells us how many places to save, then the others paying independently put, for example, “Jane’s table” in the comments section of the online order form. This way we can be sure to seat your party all together. If you are coming singly or as a group and want to join another group, also tell us in the “comments” section.
