The Paul Millard Quartet & Guests: A Blue Note Tribute

Wednesday 19 February 7.00pm

“doin’ the thing”…a Blue Note Tribute
Paul Millard is a Perth based jazz and freelance musician playing sax, flute and clarinet. He has performed extensively throughout Australia with his own groups and for numerous national and international artists including his own groups Paul Millard Quartet (PMQ), Straight Ahead Big Band (SABB), jazz/funk combo groovefactor plus many names in the music business, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, James Morrison and Hugh Jackman and in a variety of theatrical seasons “in the pit” for shows such as Chicago, Matilda The Musical, Singin In The Rain et al.
Tonight Paul has the pleasure to be joined with a wonderful line-up of musicians to pay tribute to the iconic jazz music label Blue Note Records. Blue Note was established in 1939 and during the 50’s & 60’s in particular produced some of the most original jazz ever, cool, hip, swinging and funky, ground breaking music that created that unique “Blue Note Sound”. Many famous artists and tunes will be represented tonight including Herbie Hancock, Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, Horace Silver and Wayne Shorter with tracks such as Cantaloupe Island, Dis Here, Senior Blues, Sidewinder, Song For My Father and Doin’ The Thing!
PMQ is very pleased to have special guests Victoria Newton vocals, Ricki Malet trumpet and Iain Robbie percussion added to their line up is, Paul Millard saxes/flutes, Mike Nelson piano, Alistair Peel bass and Bronton Ainsworth drums.
We will also be performing jazz standards and some original tracks from PMQ’s recent CD “ On The Upside”. Look forward to seeing you there, with us “doin’ the thing”…a Blue Note Tribute.
