The Music of Sonny Rollins with Jarvis
Monday 27 February 7.00pm
Sonny Rollins, one of the greatest voices in jazz music to ever grace our planet once said:
“No one is original. Everyone is derivative”. A humble and telling comment coming from the man that generations of musicians have copied solos, styles, phrases, wardrobe choices, antics and facial hair fashions from.
Sonny Rollins played with everyone and everyone certainly wanted to play with him (including the Rolling Stones).
Named after the band’s favourite competitive eater “Cookie Jarvis”, Jarvis is a collection of gents who love to play music together and who love Sonny Rollins’ music.
All your favourite Sonny Rollin’s songs will get an outing – St Thomas, Oleo, The Bridge, Airegin, I’m an Old Cowhand, The Freedom Suite etc, with some sacrosanct tradition renditions and some surprising new treatments.
Jarvis plays Sonny Rollins’ Songs
Ben Vanderwal – Drums
Harry Mitchell – Piano
Dylan Hooper – Saxophones
Jeremy Thompson – Guitar
Karl Florisson – Bass
