Sky Machine: 1947

Tuesday 25 August 7.00pm

Chapter 1: “1947”

“No one would have believed that there were ancient intelligences documenting and surveying the Cosmos. Within human cultures throughout antiquity, there had been ruminations of the implications of such a thought; however, there was no true perception that these beings may be out there, studying the Universe with keen and curious minds. People would be quick to dismiss this idea as nonsense, impossible, and even comical. Yet, in 1947, there was such an intelligence documenting Earth.”

Sky Machine is a jazz fusion group that explores existential questions of our Universe through the combination of narrative, art and music. By combining elements of funk, rock, metal and jazz, this dynamic ensemble creates explosive and vibrant improvisations. To accompany their energetic and powerful performances, Sky Machine weave science fiction narratives into their musical adventures. “1947” explores the philosophical implications of the discovery of advanced technology from an unknown origin.

Tonight, they present new arrangements of classic jazz standards, along with a selection of their original works, to take you on a journey through this story.
