Simplicius Cheong Quartet

Tuesday 31 October 7.00pm

Simplicius Cheong, who’s name gained momentum as the first Asian Australian to record for EMI Australia (Parlophone PMCO 7531) with his Baroque Jazz Ensemble in 1966.
A working jazz pianist from the tender age of 18, Simplicius has performed throughout Europe, USA, Asia, and Australia, most recently at the Singapore “Jazz in July” Feastival on July 9, 2017.
He studied at Sydney University, and Perth’s own UWA, and went on to teach jazz and composition at UNSW.
Perth is blessed to have Simplicius venture back west and grace the Ellington stage for one night only. With this stellar line up, boasting the impressive Rit Zu on flute on tour from Singapore, Richard Timms on upright bass, Nathan Winterflood on drums, with whispers of special guests, it is guaranteed to be a memorable night of Jazz magnificence.
