Sharny Russell 'Comes a Time' Tour

Monday 12 June 7.00pm

Every now and again a truly charming artist emerges. Heartfelt, genuine and commanding, the uniquely talented Sharny Russell will be launching her beautiful new album “Comes a Time” (on MGM distribution). A jazz artist who is highly respected among her peers, and who has recorded with ABC and won the APRA Jazz Award, Sharny’s repertoire is fresh and original, whilst divinely musical and accessible for new fans of the jazz genre.  Sharny plays and sings unison improvised lines like she’s picking flowers, and she invites her audience to join in the fun.

Based in Byron Bay, Sharny has had an extraordinary career as an educator, writer and musician. With multiple works published in The Australian Jazz Real Book and the Australian Hymn book, she has written over 160 songs and four musicals, and even completed a stint as music director on iconic Australian television show “Here’s Humphrey”. Being involved in a horrific vehicle accident at 22, she was told she may never sing again. She proved them very wrong! As a university jazz teacher in Brisbane Qld, she has worked with artists such as Kristin Berardi, Megan Washington, Elly Hoyt and Dami Im.

Sharny is launching this brand new album across the country and will be fresh from Stonnington Jazz Festival when she hits Perth! The program will include stunning new originals as well as surprising takes on beloved classics. But always authentic, pure jazz.

Matt Styles – saxes and flute
Simon Jeans – guitar
Pete Jeavons – bass
Mike Perkins – drums
