Ryan Daunt Trio ‘Essence’ Album Launch

Local Perth jazz drummer Ryan Daunt launches his second album at The Ellington Jazz Club. Ryan is well known for his work with WAM song of the year nominees MELVE, Gemma Farrell Quintet, Tim Voutas Quartet, ARDENT Trio and The Island Trio.
Drawing influences from artists such as Avishai Cohen, Tigran Hamasyan, Hiromi, E.S.T, Tingvall Trio, Benedikt Jahnel Trio and more, Ryan Daunt’s original music is a unique blend of styles, containing elements of jazz, contemporary and classical music. Expect rich harmonic landscapes, complex rhythmic interplay, captivating melodies and exciting improvisations from the Ryan Daunt Trio.

Ryan released his debut album, Fragile Information, in 2016, featuring Ryan Daunt, Luke Minness, Nick Abbey and Chris Foster. Ryan has also featured on multiple West Australian records including Piece of Walter Have a Slice (2013), Gemma Farrell Organised Chaos (2017), ML RUUBZ Segue on the Beach (2017). MFG MFG (2018), MELVE Volume one (2018), Take Care (2019), West Australia Youth Jazz Orchestra Best of WAYJO 2018 (2018), The Island Trio The Island Trio (2019) and Tim Voutas Quartet Introducing TVQ (2019). Ryan also featured in the short film Ivory, directed by Andrew Newcombe at Murdoch University (2018).
Bassist/composer Nick Abbey is equally at home leading his own jazz trio and holding down the low end for some of the world’s finest musicians. This 2020 Freedman Jazz Fellowship
nominee, 2015 National Jazz Awards semi-finalist, four-time WAM Jazz Song of the Year winner, recent PhD graduate, and WAAPA lecturer has regularly collaborated with the likes of
Tal Cohen, Paul Grabowsky, Jamie Oehlers, Troy Roberts, Graham Wood, Tom O’Halloran, and Libby Hammer, and has performed with international luminaries including Peter Bernstein, Vivian Sessoms, George Garzone, John Scofield, Paul Bollenback, Veronica Swift, Alex Norris, Jim Pugh, and Howard Levy. As well as his own acclaimed solo record ‘Phantoms’ (2019), Nick has appeared on a series of fantastic Australian releases from bands such as TRISK, Abbey|FosterlFalle, Fiona-Lawe Davies, Libby Hammer, Ryan Daunt, Ecila, Det Nopsus, Glyn MacDonald Group, _motion, ATM15, and the Johannes Luebbers Dectet.
Tristan Wills graduated from WAAPA in 2018. Since then Tristan has performed at festivals such as the King St Corner Pocket Festival, venues such as Heath Ledger Theatre and
Government House as well as performing with artists such as Daniel Susnjar, John Morrison, Jamie Oehlers, Freddie Grigson and Victoria Newton. Tristan also teaches jazz and contemporary music at Carey Baptist college on a full time basis.
