With a career spanning more than 50 years in the industry, Ray is one of Western Australia’s leading professional guitarists. A versatile and accomplished player across many styles, Ray has performed in duo format with many world class guitarists including Martin Taylor, Peter Leitch, Gary Potter, John Pisano, and the late Emily Remler. A veteran of literally thousands of recording sessions for radio and TV, Ray has also appeared with the WA Symphony Orchestra in numerous concerts since 1965, including a performance as soloist on classical guitar in Rodrigo’s ‘Concierto de Aranjuez’.
In 2000 he recorded his own CD ‘Affinity’ in Los Angeles with well-known American guitarist John Pisano. He was a member of the Jazz Dept. faculty at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts since the inception of the jazz program there in 1984 until his retirement in 2016. Tonight, Ray will be joined by two of WA’s premier jazz musicians, Pete Jeavons on Bass and Mike Perkins on drums. Together they will explore the subtleties of the trio format in a program of standards and originals that is sure to please.
Joining the Ray Walker Trio live on stage for the first time, is artist Phil Doncon, who will paint a new work live on stage as the trio performs. He creates rapid fire images in unison with diverse styles of music, interspersed with dance and gymnastics. Phil has staged an impressive 24 solo exhibitions and won innumerable awards over two decades of professional art practice.
