Rachel Claudio (Paris)

Saturday 04 July 7.00pm

Upon arriving in France, Rachel Claudio quickly built a reputation as one of the most celebrated soulful house singers in Europe, following her many collaborations with producers and DJs such as Dimitri from Paris, Alton Miller, DJ Meme, DJ Yass, Jamie Lewis and of course, Martin Solveig.

It was at this point that she began touring worldwide – from Sao Paolo to Miami to Amsterdam to London… essentially any city in the world who had connected to that underground house movement.

Rachel’s musical anchor, however, remains in the realm of jazz and hip hop – with a strong regard towards it’s future evolution or rather, it’s technological expression. In the tradition of artists such as Bjork, Imogen Heap and Erykah Badu, Rachel Claudio is a strong advocate of live sampling, vocal effects and electronic tools that create once-only, made-for-the-present-moment live experiences.

Her fruitful obsession with technology was perhaps nourished by her long-time mentor and friend, King Britt (of Grammy award-winning group Digable Planets,
producer for Ursula Rucker, co-producer of the Miami Vice soundtrack)

It was King Britt who first organized Rachel’s first concert in the United States and provoked many future collaborations including those with Neal Evans(Soulive), Brian Jackson (Gil Scott Heron’s mythic co-collaborator), Steve McKie (Bilal, Kindred the Family Soul, Jill Scott)

In 2011, Rachel released her first solo album “Claudiography” which expresses her ongoing love affair with the written word, jazz-inspired soulful chord progressions and elaborate vocal arrangements.

In 2012, she released her first mixtape “C.L AUDIO TAPE”  which is mashup of some of her favorite vintage pop tunes reworked over the beats of her favorite new-school producers and beatmakers.

She has opened for a whole host of artists including : The Roots, Common, Dwele, Bilal, Beady Belle, Ben l’Oncle Soul, Raheem Devaughn…
