Quinteto São Paulo’s Alternate Latino Universe
Friday 20 October 7.00pm
What if all your favourite songs were played with a Latin beat? Would it open up an alternate musical universe? Quinteto São Paulo pose the hypothetical questions that none of us even knew needed asking, as they take well known songs and play them in a “Latino” style.
What if “Take me On” was a sing along samba? What if Bob Marley was born in Cuba? Do Michael Jackson songs work with triangle? (of course they do). What happens when you play Autumn leaves in a groove from a country where autumn happens in a different Month?
All playing, and all singing, this band held a Thursday residency at the Terrace hotel for 2 years. Here they experimented with taking much loved songs and loading them with South American Rhythms – stacked with percussion solos, piano montunos and pulsating unison bass lines.
Stevie Wonder, INXS, Bill Withers, Seal, Oasis plus a host of Latino songs will all get alternate universal treatments
Quinteto São Paulo is:
