PJS Presents: Matilda Simcock and MELVE

Wednesday 18 November 7.00pm

Matilda Simcock

Perth singer Matilda Simcock has united her knowledge of composition,
arranging and performance, to form a set of original music. Inspired
by the likes of Gretchen Parlato, Esperanza Spalding, Katie Noonan and
Cecile McLorin Salvant, Matilda hopes to create a modern jazz sound
whilst capturing the essence of contemporary, blues and soul story

Join Matilda in celebrating her love of poetry and modern jazz music
as she brings to life the works of 19th century poet Emily Dickinson
through the power of music. Dickinson’s poetry depicts madness, anger,
hope, longing, selfless love and nostalgia; it is through the musical
adaptation of a compilation of Dickinson’s poems that Matilda hopes to
evoke these emotions. Dickinson’s work is timeless, shedding light on
the human condition, with the underlying themes relevant to this day.
