PJS Double Album Launch: Joshua Cusack Dectet & Helium

Friday 06 December 7.00pm

The Perth Jazz Society are proud to host a double album launch event,
featuring debut albums by Joshua Cusack Dectet and Helium.

PJS has been supporting original jazz artists in Perth for over 40
years. Through their relationship with recording studio Procopy, PJS
provides free studio hire and engineering time to 2 deserving artists
each year, enabling them to record an album of original music.

This year’s artists present a night of groundbreaking original jazz,
celebrating the launch of their albums, and the end of another
successful year for PJS.

Joshua Cusack is a budding composer and bassist from Perth Western
Australia. His large ensemble music features aspects of jazz, free
music and electronics. In 2018 Joshua wrote a suite of music to
celebrate his time spent at WAAPA, “the graduation suite”. This music
among others will be performed by Joshua’s exciting ten piece band.
His music is pensive, exciting, experimental and not to be missed.

Formed in 2014, Helium is a dynamic instrumental trio featuring
standout Western Australian musicians Harry Mitchell on organ, Jeremy
Thomson on guitar and Daniel Susnjar on drums. Members of Helium have
shared the stage with music legends including Chick Corea, Charlie
Watts, Terence Blanchard, Bobby McFerrin and Dr G Yunuingu, and have
been honoured with multiple Australian Jazz Bell Awards in 2015, 2017
and 2018, along with APRA Art Music Awards in 2017 and 2019 and WAM
Awards from 2015-2018. Presenting a fresh new sound in Australian
music which combines elements of contemporary jazz, Latin America
rhythms and minimalist music, Helium is pushing the organ trio
ensemble format into exciting and unchartered musical territories.
