Music by and for Graham Wood - The Ellington 10th Birthday Celebration

Saturday 02 March 6.30pm

We are overjoyed to be celebrating The Ellington Jazz Club’s 10th Birthday, and how better to celebrate our first decade than with the music of our co-founder, and one of Perth’s greatest musical talents, who we very sadly lost in 2017: Graham Wood. Graham was also the Director and Founder of the Perth International Jazz Festival, Associate Professor at WAAPA, and to top it all off: a superbly gifted and inspiring pianist and composer. His energy and zeal knew no bounds and his fierce passion was obvious not only through everything he played, but everything he ever did.

To celebrate The Ellington’s 10th birthday, some of Graham’s best friends are getting together to perform a range of compositions from his 5 recorded works, alongside original pieces inspired by Graham, and stories connected to him. Come ring in The Ellington’s 10th birthday with the music of the man who has provided so much opportunity and support to a musical community that he really believed in.

Line up:

Jamie Oehlers – Saxophone
Simon Jeans – Guitar
Tom O’Halloran – Piano
Zac Grafton – Bass
Daniel Susnjar – Drums

Please note that music will commence promptly at 7pm, and end at 9pm.

It’s The Ellington Jazz Club’s 10th Birthday! On this very weekend in 2009, we opened our doors for the first time, and we’ve been filling the venue and the city with beautiful music ever since. We’ve put together a weekend showcasing Perth’s most revered jazz performers in honour of this momentous occasion, and of course, in honour of the late, great Graham Wood, the club’s co-founder.
