Matilda Simcock - WAAPA Graduation Recital
Tuesday 08 October 9.00pm
WAAPA vocalist Matilda Simcock, unites her gained knowledge of the past four years in jazz repertoire, composition, arranging and performance, to form a one hour set of original music. Inspired by the likes of Gretchen Parlato, Esperanza Spalding, Katie Noonan and Cecile McLorin Salvant, Matilda hopes to create a modern jazz sound whilst capturing the essence of contemporary blues and soul story telling.
Join Matilda in celebrating her love for poetry and modern jazz music as she brings to life the works of 19thcentury poet Emily Dickinson through the power of music. Dickinson’s poetry depicts madness, anger, hope, longing, selfless love and nostalgia; it is through the musical adaptation of a compilation of Dickinson’s poems that Matilda hopes to evoke these emotions. Dickinson’s work is timeless, shedding light on the human condition, with the underlying themes relevant to this day.
Matilda will be joined by a stellar band consisting of Perth’s finest musicians:
Ben Matthews (Piano)
Alistair Peel (Bass)
Bronton Ainsworth (Drums)
Chris Musitano (Trumpet)
Sean Little (Saxophone)
Anthony Dodos (Trombone)
Jasmine Iustini (Vocals)
Lucy Iffla (Vocals)
Jordan Anthony (Vocals)
Owen Measday (MC)
